Astra 3 changes Jun. 2024 On 22 May, the error correction (FEC) of all transponders for Astra 3 (23.5 degrees east) was changed from 2/3 to 3/4. This means that a minimum reception strength of 7.8 dB is required, where 6.3 dB was previously sufficient. As a result, satellite dishes that are not optimally alligned, the sinal will be too low. With properly aligned dishes, the signal is more likely to temporarily drop during heavy rainfall. This also makes reception in southern European countries more difficult.

There are more changes. The channels TravelXP, Dreamworks and Mezzo will be switched from HD to SD. From July, channels 192TV and NPO Politiek will disappear from this satellite position and can only be watched online after that. Incidentally, the disappearance of channel 192TV is still being reconsidered. There is a possibility that the channel could be retained if more channels are converted from HD to SD. The latter happens, for example, with the channel EarthTV. In contrast, however, the channel Viaplay TV is actually being converted from SD to HD. For some other channels, there will be transponder changes.

Ziggo, KPN, SKV without ZDF Jun. 2023 Ziggo, KPN, T-Mobile, SKV and other providers will have to do without ZDF temporarily. Reason for the temporary stop of retransmission is the football match Germany - Ukraine. The match of 'Der Mannschaft' will be played symbolically against Ukraine. Only if ZDF is received via satellite can the full programming be viewed on Monday evening 12 June. ZDF is part of Canal Digitaal's channel list via satellite and can also be watched by any satellite viewer with reception of Astra1 as it is distributed unencrypted.

ZDF asked for a blockade because of the friendly football match between Germany and Ukraine. The German public broadcaster has the broadcasting rights for this only for its own country and not for the Netherlands. The providers therefore received a friendly request from both the ZDF and Buma/Stemra to block the channel ZDF on Monday 12 June from 17:35 to 20:15.

Ziggo and KPN have decided to ignore this request to temporarily block ZDF.

Sat-IP - Satellite via ethernet Feb. 2013 Satellite Company SES introduces a new technique called satellite-IP. This technique allows for the satellite signal to be converted to the IP protocol, making it possible to watch television over a home network on one or more TVs, computers or laptops. Currently, up to 8 devices can be connected via IP satellite. It also makes it possible to watch live-TV on a second screen using IP satellite. illustratie

Although SES has shown a demo of satellite-IP at various fairs, the technique still needs extensive testing. SES is planning to do a user test in the course of 2013 over the german channel HD +. In order to use satellite-IP the receiver needs to support the technique of satellite-IP. This will initially be done using an (external) set-top box, and SES is in contact with LNB manufacturers for bringing a satellite-IP LNB on the market.

SES Astra releases iPad app Nov. 2012 Satellite company SES has released its own iPad app. This app is freely available for all owners of the Apple iPad tablet and provides detailed information on all SES satellites.

The Luxembourg based company has released several apps for smartphones and tablets on the market before. This new SES Satellites app is the most complete. It contains information on all 52 SES satellites currently operational. It also contains a visualization of over 150 footprints for these satellites.

The SES Satellites app is the first satellite app that shows which SES satellites can be received at that location on the basis of the geographical location. The user's location can be determined using the iPad-camera by pointing it in the direction of the horizon for a short time.

De Olympic Games in London are being broadcasted via Netherlands 1 and via 12 internet-streams from the NOS. Those who watch via satellite can choose from 24 streams, each in both SD and HD. The BBC will be broadcasting these 48 streams from july 25th, unencoded via the Astra 2 satellite on 28,2 degrees east.

Those who will be watching these channels via a receiver from Canal Digital, may experience problems with sound as these receivers may not be able to properly handle the audiotracks in these streams.

3D-TV without glasses Dec. 2010 illustratie

3Dfusion is bringing a new 3D TV to the market that does not need special glasses. The new screen is using technology licensed from Philips.

During the "3D Days" in Ede, the screens could be viewed in the Netherlands for the first time. The technique makes it possible for 3D content to be viewed on special screens, which are also suitable for 2D, without loss of image quality and without the side effects that may occur with watching regular 3D screens, such as headache and nausea.

New site for Feed Hunters December 2010 Especially for feedhunfers a new website has been launched: www.feedposting.com. The new website is a collaboration between a group of very active feedhunters and the firm Satellite Magazine. Feeds are used for occasional major events in the world. Feeds are also used in journal reports and news items. A feedhunter will receive the latest news much earlier than regular TV viewers.

3D-tv sales rising December 2010 illustratie

The electro technical retailers expects sales of 3D televisions by the end of this year will be around 85.OOO pieces. For next year it is expected that there will be another 29O.OOO 3D devices over the counter. That makes trade association UNETO-VNI today based on research conducted by market research company GfK Retail and Technology.
